For :iconpuff222001:'s "Sailor Moon parents" contest.

I've always liked the idea that our current myths about Greek/Roman mythology come from actual actions taken in the Silver Millennium. Zeus/Jupiter is believed to have thrown lightning bolts because Sailor Jupiter used lightning, and so on.

So here we have the first meeting of the little Princess Mars and Princess Venus, in the arms of their parents: the general-king Ares of Mars, and the gorgeous and beloved Aphrodite of Venus.

You will of course remember from your classical mythology that Aphrodite had an affair with Ares, though she was married to his brother Hephaestus (Vulcan to the Romans). Thus the double meaning of the title.

(Ares' appearance is based on Alucard's Vlad form.)

yeah i can see that you used Alucard's Vlad form as a base.

it matchs even down to the red eyes :D
yet ares stands more tall and proud like an Officer would.

really nice ;)

they do like each other. so cute!
actually, in most accounts she was married to Ares, though i think she and Hephaestus are a cuter couple. Zeus and Hera too. never understood how a monogamous god could marry a polyamorous god successfully myself
love the pacifiers, and the way little Venus is reaching for little Mars. King Mars, hold her more carefully!

That's so nice! I totally agree with you, although Greek Mythology was a little too promiscuous for my tastes. I love Aphrodite's sly look at Ares, and the matching dresses, and everything! I'll put it right now.

What timing! I've decided quite recently that I was horrible for not getting the full SM manga years ago and my volume 9 just arrived in the mail today.

These two = so cute.

I haven't heard that idea about the Silver Millenium being the age of the gods but I like it a great deal. It reminds me of Entrantress from the Stars' play with ages and the influence of intervening time.
Technically, King Ares' grip on Princess Mars is something I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around. I love the parents' hair and demeanor, though. I feel like they're the sorts who take passion by the horns and deal with little details like spouses later, so that's luvly successful.
One does wonder who Mars' mother was, though. Hestia is the first that comes to mind, but that doesn't click perfectly.

I came up with the idea on my own, but I'm sure I can't be the only one who's thought of it, because it's so intriguing.

...He's, er, strong. (It's not just him; Queen Aphrodite seems to be missing a hand. Clearly I didn't have any baby-gripping references...)

I don't think Queen Mars made it into the myths. Either she died early, or she simply wasn't a big enough presence to be remembered. (It's the same way with Queen Serenity's husband. I don't know if he was dead or just really uninteresting.)
