Omigosh. Have I mentioned that I absolutely effing LOVE your inclusion of transgender folks in the worlds you create? I'm a transguy, and I really, really appreciate your tolerance and inclusiveness. You are AWESOME.
::has to run into the bathroom to compose self for a few minutes::
Oh wow, um, may have been blindsided by sudden tearing up at the last two panels (actually it started with the knot in my stomach as soon as I spotted tiny Char!phen saying "Sweetness...?") ;___;
Okay, enough weeping, I love this. Pam's fiery expression in the third panel is perfect, and I'm glad you brought up her discomfort with the other cis!male!Colberts. Fourth panel has a lot of complex things going on- Stephen being both his usual blunt potentially-destructive self (with the added excuse of being overcome with emotion), poor Pam's terrified look that her worst fear has just come true (::clings:, and Jon's protective (identity-reinforcing) anger.
::reads last two panels again:: *sniff* *sniff* :') So wonderful <3
::emerges from sappiness to suddenly ponder lots of meta:: How does the Interdimensional Colbert Cafe work anyway- How do they reach it, and how did it come into being? Does everyone have one/does this work as Jon's too or does it only apply to Stephen's partner in multiple dimensions which just happens to be a Jon most of the time (So that ftm!Jon occasionally shows up with his Stephen, or random Jane Fonda with hers). :onders::
*hugs* I drew this on your urging from, like, a year ago, so I'm glad you like it
FTM!Stephen is in an interesting position -- he probably understands Pam's feelings better than anybody in the room, but that doesn't stop him from being, well, a Stephen. With the baseline level of angst and destructiveness that that implies.
The ICC is a "Stephen"-exclusive thing, and it falls into the category of magical-realism things that spring up around him with no discernible explanation. (Possibly its origin can be traced back to a dimension in which Stephen and/or Jon is omnipotent.) I haven't decided the rules for partners yet; it would wreak havoc across timelines if Stephens who were married to Lorraine but secretly crushing on Jon kept meeting alternate Stephens in happy healthy same-sex relationships. (Not to mention what would happen if one dimension's Jon died, and the newly-single Stephen came to the ICC...) Maybe visiting Stephens get automatically routed to different sections based on their relationship status.
Overall, I think it makes the most sense if you take it at face value and then refuse to think about the details XD;
And yes, there are realities which start out the same as that story, but diverge before the point of Sweetness' death
