V. - Valhalla System Senshi

The cast of a Silver Millennium-era epic that never quite got off the ground. (I spent all my worldbuilding on the Xyll system, evidently.) The Valhalla system fell to Chaos less than a century before the Sol system did.

First row: Senshi forms

It's almost worth redesigning these just to create some actual Norse-inspired dresses. A more Valkyrie-esque fuku design wouldn't have hurt either.

A few plot tidbits I remember:

Odin is the ruling planet of the system, with two princesses. The eldest was Sailor Odin; her little sister took on Beryl's role, becoming the local chaos avatar.

The Norse name for the planet Venus is Friggjarstjarna, "Frigg's star." Probably because the Frigg and Venus royal families are closely related, and after Valhalla's destruction Venus became home to the universe's largest population of Frigg expatriates.

Volve is the only one whose name didn't enter mythology as that of a goddess: "This kind of soothsayer was called a Volve, which means "stave-bearer". Her stave was the symbol of her supernatural powers. By entering into a trance, she could contact the spiritual world, and she knew many powerful magic spells." [link]

These sailors aren't all close in age; Frigg is a young teenager, for instance, while Freya and Volve are in their late twenties. The most pronounced gap: the queen of Loki was nearly forty when the battle began, with several small children. But the team needed a Sailor Loki to access its full power, so she stepped into the role...and died in battle, forcing the nine-year-old Sailor Chibi-Loki to take on her role far too soon.

Sailor Thor has a pretty nifty hammer.
