Lots of experimental techniques used on the color and the lighting in this one. The original lineart didn't come out looking very interesting, and I was almost about to leave it unfinished. Very glad I decided to play with it instead
The first two things I was struck by immediately was the quality of the sunset colors throughout the drawing and the way Madoka melted into them while maintaining a strong presence.
Looking deeper, the love and sadness make this a real bitter sweet piece. As someone who is not familiar with these two characters, I feel it speaks volumes to say that the expressions (in both their faces and their gestures) makes me feel misty-eyed.
For me, it is a reminder to never take a day with your cherished one (and/or family) for granted. I can relate to that kind of loss.
